New York Mets Information
The New York Mets is a professional baseball team of the MLB. It is one of the two MLB franchises that share the city of New York, with the other being the New York Yankees. The Mets are based in Flushing, Queens. The original New York Mets is one of the first teams of the professional baseball league, tracing its history back to the New York Metropolitans in the 1880's.
The New York Mets were added to the roster of expansion teams in 1960 and became one of the teams that replaced the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants, both of which left the East Coast for California. The New York Mets first began playing in the historic polo grounds where it shared playing duties with the New York Jets. In 1964, the Mets moved to Shea Stadium and played there until 2008, paving the way for a new home for the Mets, which was named the Citi Field.
The Mets have been a fairly successful franchise throughout its history, winning two World Series titles, four National League pennants, and five National League Eastern Division titles. Its last World Series title came way back in 1986, with its last World Series appearance in 2000. The Mets hold the distinction of being the only expansion team to appear in the World Series four times, and they are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays and Florida Marlins for the most World Series titles for an expansion team.
The Mets hold the record for the largest attendance for a New York baseball game in 1970, recording approximately 2.7 million. The Mets topped the record five times before the New York Yankees took it back for good in 1999. This shows that New York fans love their baseball teams.
Although the Mets and the Yankees share the same city, they have a different set of fans divided by geography within the city. Mets fans are most likely found in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island. On the other hand, Yankees fans are most likely found in Manhattan, the Bronx, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The Yankees also have more pull in the upper Hudson Valley and upstate New York. The two franchises have had a nice rivalry for years proving that the city can accommodate two Major League Baseball franchises.
If you are interested in buying a New York Mets ticket, you only need to head to the new Citi Field for Mets games. Citi Field is one of the newest baseball parks to hold MLB games. It is located just across the street from the old Shea Stadium. The field was named after CitiGroup, which is a financial services conglomerate in New York.
Compared to the Shea Stadium, Citi Field has less seating capacity, but it has a larger seat width and more legroom. It will also accommodate more restaurants and other amenities as well as a larger floor area for the team store. The Citi Field also has higher fences to prevent players from earning more home runs.
The New York Mets have a couple of all-star caliber players to give them the needed boost for the upcoming season, and they have also acquired new players to reinforce their rotation. Many fans are betting big for the success of the Mets to bring back the glory days where the rivalry with the Yankees was in its peak. They only need a few minor adjustments to get to the World Series. With their savvy hitters and smart pitchers, they can easily make a lot of noise in the playoffs. Buy your New York Mets today tickets and hop on the bandwagon while it is early.
